As some of you may or may not know, there is a “When Cloverfield Hit” contest transpiring. I’ve watched a few contest runners’ videos but I’d have to say I really enjoyed this particular video from Nooneimportant77. He gets my vote. See the video for yourself and cast your vote:

So, being a rabid behind the scenes fan, I spent last night watching the extras on the Cloverfield DVD as well as the whole movie with commentary. As such, I felt it was time to face the facts about a few popular myths going around…
1) Marlena and Hud are most certainly dead. Both sustained massive trauma to the torso, albeit in different ways. Slow framing shows Hud being munched in half, his upper body being what hit the ground. While we never saw the aftermath of Marlena’s gut bust, the DVD refers to her “death” repeatedly.
2) The fates of Rob, Beth, and Lily are intentionally left vague. Matt Reeves even came out and said they didn’t want to show if Rob and Beth survived or died because it would take away from the main point of their story (the fact that they got to be with each other one last time, in spite of all that happened).
3) The camera is a video TAPE camera. Repeated references in story and behind the scenes refer to it as such. While they never explained why it says “SD card” at the beginning, it’s safe to say that the original media was in fact always a tape. Perhaps the DoD transferred the footage to a card for archiving, who knows?
4) Nukes are NEVER mentioned as part of Hammer Down. One alternate ending shows a quick cut of the camera being found by someone, and they’re not in a rad suit. It can be determined then that nuking NYC was never what they had in mind.
5) According to Reeves, the sound at the end was meant to be -deciphered-. In other words, it’s not supposed to be obvious what it says. So, the reversed “it’s still alive” is most likely the intended message, while the forward “help us” may not be.
6) Should have put this up front, but I wanted to save the best for last.
THERE IS ONLY ONE CLOVER MONSTER. That’s right…just one MGP. No Mommy GP, no Daddy GP. Just baby Clover throwing one heck of a tantrum. Every behind the scenes clip about the monster says just that…it’s THE monster, not one of the monsters. The same monster knocked down the buildings, the same monster nearly stomps our heroes, and the SAME MONSTER eats Hud in the park. Nowhere does anyone associated with the movie imply or state that there is more than one giant critter stomping around the city.
Well done Nick. I concur with your assesment and the extras. That was madness when I saw that Hud was actually bit in half and you could see his legs hangin out MGPs mouth when the camera fell and top half fell. Makes me wonder why the other 2 ran to check on him because only half fell and it had to be pretty grotesque.
